Bookstores are NOT a good place to hide from the rain. A coffee shop might do. Or a department store, if one is nearby, will take you in and you can stop there awhile. Then you get on with your day. But don’t set foot in a bookstore. You’ll end up browsing the shelves of books with the pitter-patter of rain faintly in the background. You will pick up a book, leaf through its pages, tentatively bring it closer to your face and… sniff. There’s no going back then. You will wish yourself home, sitting down to a cup of tea and the new adventure about to begin. And then where will you be? Not home, not for another few hours, too many, and you have to check every now and then that the lovely* new book you decided to take in is still there, still sticking around, and will be waiting for you to have time.

* i am laughing because i decided to go with "lovely" and look at that cover! still, chris riddell is amazing, so yes, lovely will have to do.
